A long tradition in American moral philosophy that includes Henry Davis Thoreau, Charles Lane, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Lysander Spooner, Auberon Herbert, Ron Paul, Voluntaryists seek to delegitimize coercion in society and advocate cooperation and consent in its place.
