The Continental currency was the paper money issued by the Continental Congress during the American Revolutionary War from 1775 to 1783. Unfortunately, the Continental currency suffered from rampant inflation and quickly lost its value due to overprinting, lack of confidence in its worth, and counterfeit notes.
The rapid depreciation of the Continental currency led to a severe economic crisis and widespread hardship for Americans. Merchants, soldiers, and ordinary citizens found it difficult to conduct transactions or buy essential goods due to the currency's decreasing value.
To combat the issue, Congress attempted to limit the circulation of the Continental currency by issuing a new currency, known as the "hard money" currency, which was backed by gold and silver. However, this attempt failed, and the Continental currency became almost worthless by the end of the war.
