    Toile, pronounced “twahl,” traditionally turns fabric into a landscape of pastoral scenes, country estates, and suspiciously peaceful afternoons. Normandy ’44 replaces the picnics with the liberation of France.

    Look closely and the pattern opens up into Sherman tanks, German armor, paratroopers, hidden snipers, hedgerow firefights, field guns, motorcycles, medics, and dozens of small battlefield stories. From across the room, it reads like an intricate olive green-and-white French textile. Up close, all hell breaks loose.

    This pullover version gives the pattern a big uninterrupted canvas across the body, hood, and sleeves. The soft brushed interior makes it an easy everyday hoodie, while the all-over print turns one of the most familiar pieces of clothing on earth into something worth staring at.
