  • Porcupine Don't Tread On Me

The porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum) never looks for a fight, but it most certainly is the quiet, unassuming bad ass of the forest. In fact the quill-covered-friend rarely shows aggression to anything, leaving all but the herbs, twigs, and leaves it forages alone, minding it's own business in peaceful coexistence with it's environment until something tries to make it a snack. Then there's a problem. The quills come out, it assumes it's defensive stance, and not even a grizzly bear wants anything to do with our prickly friend.

This might be why the porcupine is one of the longest-living rodents in America. Very territorial, porcupines know to respect others boundaries and property. It keeps everything copacetic. Plus with their excellent noses, they can smell trouble coming from far away and try and avoid it as much as possible.
