Richard Nixon was running for reelection against Democrat George McGovern, and subtlety apparently wasn't a major concern among his supporters.
As it turned out, McGovern couldn't. Nixon carried 49 states, won over 60% of the popular vote, and delivered one of the most lopsided presidential victories in American history.
Two years later, Nixon resigned over Watergate.
