This design centers on the Second Law of Thermodynamics. In any closed system, entropy always increases. Order gives way to disorder. Heat moves from hot to cold. Time only flows forward.
The law was first explored in the early 1800s through the work of Sadi Carnot, who studied the efficiency of heat engines. Rudolf Clausius later defined entropy as a physical quantity, observing that all natural processes lead to greater energy dispersal. Ludwig Boltzmann added a statistical view, showing that entropy measures how many microscopic configurations can exist within a single macroscopic state.
