The Moultrie Liberty flag crescent. In the Revolution's early days, rebel forces fortified Sullivan Island near Charleston in anticipation of conflict with the British Navy. During an attack in June 1776, Commander Sergeant William Jasper bravely raised the flag after it was shot down, inspiring his troops to ultimately defeat the Imperial fleet - making this flag an enduring symbol of bravery and defiance.
