  • CIA Special Activities Division Enemies of Tomorrow T-Shirt

CIA Special Activities Division: You can't fight the enemies of tomorrow without arming the extremists of today.

The Special Activities Division, shortened to the acronym SAD, is a special division of operatives that work under the supervision of the United States Central Intelligence Agency (CIA). SAD is considered one of the most mysterious branches of operatives in the world. It's divided into two groups:

    SAD/SOG:
The elite unit was established for tactical paramilitary operations when the US government doesn't want to be directly associated with the mission because it's illegal and immoral (plausible deniability)>

SAD/PAG: The separate group is used for covert political influence, economic warfare, and/or psychological operations.

    History:
    • Established in the 1950s, the SAD played a significant role in the Vietnam War through the controversial Phoenix Program, which targeted Viet Cong members for capture and assassination.
    • The SAD's role has expanded over the years, and it has been involved in numerous covert operations around the world, including the overthrow of foreign governments and the training of foreign paramilitary forces.
    Notorious Operations:
    • Iran-Contra affair in the 1980s: The SAD was purportedly involved in the covert sale of arms to Iran and the funneling of the proceeds to the Contras in Nicaragua.
    • Operation Cyclone: The SAD provided support to the Mujahideen in Afghanistan to fight against the Soviet Union during the 1980s.
    Depictions in Popular Culture:
    • The SAD has been featured in numerous films and TV shows, often depicted as a shadowy and powerful organization that operates outside the law. Examples include the Bourne franchise, Homeland, and The Recruit.
    Criticisms of Their Existence:
    • The SAD has faced criticism for its involvement in controversial operations, including the use of torture and the targeting of civilians. There have also been concerns about the lack of oversight and accountability for its actions.
    Legality of Their Operations:
    • The legality of the SAD's operations has been questioned, as many of their actions are carried out in secret and without public knowledge. Critics argue that this lack of transparency and accountability raises serious ethical and legal concerns.
    Lack of Civilian Oversight:
    • The SAD operates with minimal oversight from civilian authorities, which has led to concerns about its actions and the potential for abuse of power.
    Interesting Fact:
    • The SAD is known for its use of "non-official cover" (NOC), where operatives pose as everyday citizens rather than as government agents, making their actions even more difficult to trace.
