Resistance to tyrants is obedience to God. Sons of Liberty design by Dan McCall.
The insignia features a vintage graphic of the Tree of Liberty, with the American Rattlesnakewrapped around. I wanted to make it as true to the period as I could, so I used fell types to create the text "Watering the tree of liberty" that radiates around in reference to Thomas Jefferson's famous quote, "The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots and tyrants."
Through the roots of the Liberty Tree, the Liberty Bell is attached with the date 1765 above - noting the year which the American Revolution began after the Stamp Act had angered the colonies after years of relative neglect from the British Crown. Under this, a banner stretched across the design with the motto "Resistance to Tyranny is Obedience to God."
"Rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God" was a motto suggested for the Great Seal of the United States, but never used. Jefferson eventually appropriated it for his own and used it at Monticello. The actual source of the motto is not entirely clear, but many think it was one of the many quips Benjamin Franklin created.
The whole thing is flanked by large wings - showing the flight of freedom.
The graphic is displayed on both front and back. Only available from Liberty Maniacs.
