Thomas Jefferson is a pretty damn good homeboy to have. The dude wrote the Declaration of Independence founding America, was an inventor, founded the U of Virginia, established the premier statute for establishing freedom of religion in the United States, had a sweet crib with 33 rooms, was an archaeologist, a foodie, wine buff, whiskey distiller, had so many book that after the British burned down the Library of Congress he personally restocked it. He also had a pet mockingbird named "Dick." He did own 600 people throughout his life, which obviously isn't cool for an Enlightenment guy. But he did advocate for abolition his entire public life through the boom times of the American slave economy. (It took 87 years and a Civil War to end slavery, just as TJ predicted.)
