    Porcupine Mascot Mug

The porcupine (Erethizon dorsatum) never looks for a fight, but it most certainly is the quiet, unassuming badass of the forest. In fact, the quill-covered-friend rarely shows aggression toward anything, leaving all but the herbs, twigs, and leaves it forages alone, minding its own business in peaceful coexistence with its environment until something tries to make it a snack. Then there's a problem. The quills come out, it assumes its defensive stance, and not even a grizzly bear wants anything to do with our prickly friend.

This might be why the porcupine is one of the longest-living rodents in America. Very territorial, porcupines know to respect others' boundaries and property. It keeps everything copacetic. Plus with their excellent noses, they can smell trouble coming from far away and try and avoid it as much as possible.

The Porcupine is the unofficial mascot of American libertarians. You'll even see it used by Libertarian Party members occasionally to distinguish themselves from the donkey and elephant of the Democrats and Republicans.
