The Erbsenmuster, or "pea pattern," was a German World War II camouflage designed by Johann Georg Otto Schick. It featured bold, irregular areas of black over brown and green on a pale background, known as "Erbsentarn" or "M44." This distinct night version in black and greys is a redesign aimed to effectively conceal in various environments, from forests to urban settings for combat units.
Interestingly, the Leibermuster, which was developed towards the end of the war, was inspired by the Erbsenmuster and was the basis for the Swiss army's "Alpenflage" or "TAZ 83" pattern that collectors in the West have dubbed "pizza camouflage".
