Major General Smedley D. Butler was one of the most decorated Marines in U.S. history: two Medals of Honor, the Marine Corps Brevet Medal, and a career spent on the front lines of America’s early 20th-century wars.
After 33 years in uniform, he said what few with that résumé ever would. In War Is a Racket, Butler argued that modern wars are driven less by freedom and more by profit, with soldiers paying the bill in blood while financiers collect the dividends.
He exposed the Business Plot, refused to play along, and testified against it.
This design honors a warrior who knew the system from the inside and called it exactly what he believed it was.
